Is my EICR due?

Answer three quick questions to see the usual inspection interval for your situation and when your next report is due.

1. Who is the report for?
2. Do you have a previous EICR?

How the answer works

We use the common intervals: 5 years for private rented homes in England (a legal requirement), around 10 years for owner-occupied homes, and 5 years or less for most business premises. Any EICR you already have will state its own recommended re-inspection date, and that date takes priority.

This is general guidance, not legal advice. Rules differ in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Questions

EICR Testing: common questions

How often do I need an EICR?

For private rented homes in England, at least every 5 years. For owner-occupied homes, a check about every 10 years, or when you move in, is common advice. For businesses it is commonly 5 years or less, depending on the premises. The report itself will recommend when the next inspection is due. Use the checker on this page for a quick answer.

What happens if the EICR finds problems?

The report lists any observations and grades them. Nick can talk you through them and, if you want, quote for putting things right.
